DS-4194 Office of Authentications

Do you need to apostille your documents through the US Department of State – Office of Authentications and need to complete form DS-4194?

DS-4194 is used by the U. S. Department of State for documents submitted by U.S. citizens and foreign nationals. The Authentications Office is responsible for signing and issuing certificates under the Seal of the U. S. Department of State for documents being submitted to foreign countries.

The US Department of State – Office of Authentications is responsible for signing and issuing certificates under the Seal of the U.S. Department of State (22 CFR, Part 131) providing authentication services to U.S. citizens and foreign nationals on documents that will be used overseas (Hague Apostille Member Countries).

This office receives a variety of documents from commercial organizations, private citizens, and officials of the Federal and State governments. Documents include but not limited to: FBI background checks, FDA documents, USDA documents, Social Security Income and Benefits Statement, IRS Form 6166, US Patent and Trademark (USPTO) documents, Certificate of Free Sale, State certified documents for non-Hague countries, and more!

If you are in a rush and would like to have your documents completed in four business days plus FedEx overnight return shipping, we recommend that you mail in your documents to our Washington, D.C. apostille office for processing. We will complete form DS-4194 and submit your documents on your behalf.

Documents received at our office by 2pm can be submitted the following business morning to the U.S. Department of State for processing. Once complete, your documents will be dropped off at the FedEx shipping center for overnight return shipping at no additional cost. We can also ship your documents to an international address. FBI Background Check for China

Do you need to certify and legalize your FBI background check for China?

In order to satisfy the requirements of a China work Visa (Z Visa), you will need to certify and legalize your FBI background check and University or College degree.

This article will discuss the steps necessary in order to obtain your FBI background check through an FBI channeler or the FBI directly. If you need to certify and legalize your FBI and degree for China, please contact us so we can email you the instructions, cost, and order forms.

The first step is to contact an approved FBI Channeler to assist you in obtaining your FBI background check. We can provide you a list of recommended Channelers by email.

If the FBI Channeler is unable to help, please contact the FBI directly.

If you receive your FBI background check in a digital format (PDF copy), go ahead and e-mail it to us with the completed order form and payment (see below). If you receive your FBI background by regular mail (Hard copy), go ahead and mail it to our Washington DC office with our order forms (see below). Note: We can process a digital PDF copy or a hard copy. It’s your choice. The Chinese Embassy does not have a preference. Please also include a color copy of your USA passport. An FBI background check does not require notarization and cannot be processed from any US state. This document can only be processed through the US Department of State and the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C.

US Embassy Single Status

Are you in another country and need an apostille on your Single Status?

A U.S. Embassy will typically refer to this document as:

Please note that you will need to make an appointment to meet with an official from the U.S. Embassy. A U.S. Federal notary public will need to be present to take your oath and notarize your signature on the document.

Once notarized, the next step is to mail in the original notarized copy with our Washington DC order forms to our Washington DC apostille office. Once we receive your documents at our office, the processing time is four business days.

If the U.S. Embassy is unable to assist you, you can contact the County Clerk in the County of your last residence. County Clerk offices typically refer to this document as:

US Embassy Apostille

Are you in a foreign country and need to visit the local U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate office to apostille your documents?

A U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate office located outside of the USA can assist you with notarizing your documents but not the apostille. For example, you can visit the local U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate office to sign and notarize your documents with a U.S. Federal notary public. They can also assist you in creating a single status affidavit if you are planning to get married in the country you are in.

At some U.S. Embassies, the staff can also assist you with obtaining an FBI background check apostille. They can help you roll your fingerprints for the FBI Channeler or the FBI directly.

Remember, a U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate does not issue apostilles. The apostille will be issued through the U.S. Department of State – Office of Authentication in Washington, D.C.

We can assist you with documents signed and notarized at a U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate office and for countries other than the USA. For example, if you are a U.S. Citizen in Russia and need to sign and notarize documents for the Netherlands, you can visit the local U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate office and have your documents signed and notarized there. Once notarized, you can mail in these original documents to our Washington DC apostille office so we can obtain the apostille.
